The John H. Lounsbury College of Education celebrated GCSU's Dr. Alexandra Berglund embodies the very spirit of excellence in teaching through her unwavering dedication to student success, intellectual curiosity, and compassionate mentorship. Her ability to inspire, challenge, and empower students has left a lasting impact both inside and outside the classroom. Through innovation, scholarship, and a genuine commitment to learning, Dr. Berglund has elevated the educational experience at Georgia College & State University.It is with great admiration and gratitude that we celebrate Dr. Berglund as the recipient of the GCSU Excellence Award in Teaching — a well-deserved honor recognizing her outstanding contributions to education, her students, and the university community.

The Middle Grades Program at Georgia College & State University has been recognized with the GCSU Excellence Award for its outstanding commitment to educator preparation, student success, and community engagement. The program consistently demonstrates excellence through innovative teaching practices, strong faculty mentorship, and meaning field experiences that prepare future educators to effectively serve middle grades students.
Through collaborative partnerships, hand-on learning opportunities, and a focus on academic excellence, the program has made a significant impact on both teacher candidates and local schools. This awards reflects the dedication of faculty, student, alumni, and community partners who contribute to the continued sucess and growth of the mIddle Grades Program.
Charm Mapp Recognized as Jones County Teacher of the Year
Charm Mapp, an 8th-grade math teacher at Clifton Ridge Middle School, continues to make a lasting impact in education through her dedication to students and academic excellence. Mapp was named the 2024-2025 Jones County School District Teacher of the Year, a recognition that highlights her commitment to teaching, leadership and student achievement. She has also earned statewide recognition as a Top 10 Finalist for the 2026-2027 Georgia Teacher of the Year. A proud alumna of Georgia College & State University, Mapp has earned her bachelor's master's, and educational specialist degrees from the university. She is also on track to complete her fourth degree, a doctorate in curriculum and instruction this summer. Through her passion for mathematics education and lifelong learning, Mapp continues to inspire both her students and the broader educational community across Georgia.
The John H. Lounsbury College of Education receives accreditation at the initial-licensure and advanced levels. This Accreditation status is effective between Spring 2022 and Spring 2027. The next site review will take place in Fall 2026.
